Company History
The Louis J. Grasmick Lumber Company was founded in 1951. Originally, the company's business focused on the development of business within the local maritime community servicing various shipping lines, agents, freight forwarders, ship ceiler and stevedoring firms. In the formative years, the company also began to supply rough blocking and bracing materials for other nearby ports along the Eastern Seaboard. Grasmick's reliance upon port related business lasted for nearly two decades until "containerization" greatly reduced the need for lumber materials as a means of securing cargo on board vessels.
By the early seventies, it became apparent that the long term viability of the firm required diversification. Our foray into industrial and manufacturing plants was the first step. Later came a further expansion into the areas of residential housing, commercial construction, bridge and highway building, pallets, drywall, and roofing materials.
Today, the company's prospects are virtually limitless. We have developed what we believe to be the most flexible, service oriented, building supplies company within the region. Integrity and service are the hallmarks of our business philosophy and we are committed to developing strategies that will inure to the benefit of our clients. We believe in the concept of "partnering" and our alliances with both suppliers and customers are vital to our success. Grasmick Lumber Company is located on approximately eight acres in Baltimore, Maryland. The facility is only a ten minute drive from the Port of Baltimore and conveniently located adjacent to Interstate I-95. The premises are serviced by Norfolk Southern and we are able to either deliver or receive by truck or railcar. Additionally, several warehouses on the property enable our pallet and remanufacturing operations to perform simultaneously regardless of weather conditions.
